- More than 30 years of research has established that up to 85 percent of brain development occurs between birth and age five.
- The benefits of exposure to high quality early care and education last a lifetime, with significantly higher incomes and incidence of home ownership at age 40 for those who have had this exposure than for those who did not.
- If children do not get the benefit of high quality early childhood care and education, they can start kindergarten with deficits of 2,000 words or more of vocabulary, and this gap in conceptual understanding widens through primary and secondary school.
