Reading is one of the most pleasurable experiences in which a human being can participate. Many people believe that young children learn to read in kindergarten or first grade.  But research tells us that young children learn about language, communication, speaking and writing long before age five or six. The very first lessons in reading do not happen in school, they begin at home.

According to the American Library Association, “reading helps children learn, promotes parent-child bonding, prepares children to learn to read, introduces children to art, encourages listening skills, enriches their lives, and provides fun and enjoyment for everyone.”
